“We Are the World” was originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. Since its release, “We Are the World” has raised over $63 million (equivalent to $147 million today) for humanitarian causes. Ninety percent of the money was pledged to African relief, both long and short term.
The words sounded nice against today’s landscape. So I decided to sing it. To make the hoomans feel better. Because they aren’t used to being home all day like us dogs.
